On Friday 11 November 2011, Sea Rescue Station 37, Jeffreys Bay had their first ever year-end function! In true Sea Rescue tradition, the evening was not without any rescues, as the ±40mm of rain caused havoc on the roads leading to our venue and even before the evening could get under way, we needed to assist some of our distinguished guests in getting their vehicles out of the mud and to the venue!Once everyone was safely inside and the rescuers managed to get some dry clothes, the evening got underway with Rieghard Van Rensburg, Station 37’s Station Commander thanking all the Crew & Trainees for their hard work. “Getting a new Base up & running is no easy task, but without a team of dedicated Volunteers, it would be seemingly impossible.” said Rieghard.Rieghard then proceeded with the Award Ceremony and the first award for the evening, as well as the first award in Station 37‘s history - the ‘Robin Brown Helping Hand’ award, was awarded to Jason Kotze, for always being ready to help, no matter what, where or when! The 2nd award for the evening, the ‘RRAD Photography Most Improved Crew Member’ award, was awarded to Lohan Potgieter and the ‘Regional Directors Crew Member of the Year’ Award, went to Robin Brown [Station 37‘s Deputy Station Commander] for all his hard work & dedication during the past 12-months.Whilst the award Ceremony was underway, Crew, Trainees & Guests from our flanking stations were all asked to nominate via sms, who should win the ‘Station 37 Hard-Hat’ Award. The result was unquestionably in Joshua Du Pisanie’s favor, and was handed over by Richard Van Rensburg, Rieghard’s son. Only Joshua and the people responsible for his nomination will know why he deserved this award! We need to extend our thanks to Eidie Van Rensburg, who undertook to arrange this stunning event, Estelle Clegg from Red Velvet Events for the amazing food and Sandra & Cassie from The Rose Barn, for the use of their venue. It was a privilege for all of us to be part of Sea Rescue History in Jeffreys Bay!'
