On Wednesday 19 October two cars collided at the Birkenhead Centre in Melkbosstrand. Kobus Barnard, center manager and coxswain at Station 34 Yzerfontein, arrived minutes after it happened and started treating the passenger of the one vehicle who was the most seriously injured. The emergency services had been called but there was another patient who needed first-aid. And he could not be in both cars at the same time.“ And then Werner Krause, a young crewman at Melkbosstrand arrived,” said Kobus.“He was fantastic. He was calm and handled the situation very well. It was an honor to work with a fellow Sea Rescue crewman out of the normal duty.“ Station 18 can be proud of him,” said Kobus.
