Rips are deceptive, they look safe but can be strong

A warning message from Craig Lambinon:'The next Spring Tide peaks on the 4th of October (New Moon). That means that from today(01 October) you will be able to notice a higher than normal high tide and a lower than normal low tide and hence stronger than normal rip-currents.There are two Spring Tides every month of the year. At Full Moon and again at New Moon. Spring Tides last for a few days leading up to the Full or New Moons, Spring Tides peak on the day of the Full or New Moon and the Spring Tide effects on the coastline continue for a few days after the Full or New Moon.Spring Tide Rip-Currents can be so strong, especially when high tide turns toward low tide, that often people wading in ankle deep water are swept off their feet and swept out to sea!Enjoy the ocean but have great respect for its awesome power.'Rip currents are not always easy to spot, and for that reason our advice is always 'only swim where and when the lifeguards are on duty, and swim between their flags'Rip currents are the greatest hazards on our beaches. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hCZuYzNujI&feature=share
