The 16th Annual Rotary Wine Auction was held last night at the Table BayHotel. Seventeen tables of friends and bidders rallied in support of the BakovenNSRI Base to kick-start the fundraising effort for a new 6.5 metre rescuecraft.The Annual Wine Auction, a collaborative effort of the Rotary Clubs of TableBay and Newlands, has been raising funds for charitable projects for 16Years; the majority of these events with Sea Rescue as a beneficiary.Thanks to the Wine Estates and individual donors who contributed the wines forAuction. A particular mention must be made of Hein Schipper (he recently turned100 years old) who donated R20 000 last night. Special thanks to GrandWest CSIas Main Sponsor, the Wine Cellar for their expertise and hard work, ClaremartAuctioneers (MC du Toit) who every year donate their time and auctioneering skills,USANA for the excellent Wines on the tables, and last but not least the Rotarianswho every year work tirelessly to put this project together.Although final calculations still need to be made, initial estimates indicatethat about R170 000 was raised. We look forward to adding to this amount withthe Gauteng Rotary Wine Auction soon to be held at the Balalaika Hotel in Sandton.This event will be hosted by the Rotary Club of Knights Pendragon on the2nd November 2011.
