At 10h41 NSRI Simon's Town volunteers were called out following reports from a group of 11 paddlers, between Buffels Bay and Cape Point, in the Cape Point Nature Reserve, that they had run into heavy weather and needed help.We sent our sea rescue boats Spirit of Safmarine III and Eddie Beaumont as well as a sea rescue 4x4 vehicle responded to Buffels Bay and the Metro Red Cross AMS helicopter was placed on alert. An experienced paddler amongst the group reported that he had taken three of the weakest paddlers and sought protection from the choppy seas and strong winds at The Cave, near to Cape Point, and the remaining 7 paddlers had pressed on towards Buffels Bay.Our sea rescue craft headed to The Cave to recover the four while our sea rescue 4x4 vehicle headed to Buffels Bay where a head count confirmed that the 7 stronger paddlers had reached the safety of Buffels Bay.Our sea rescue craft picked up all four of the remaining paddlers at The Cave and they were all taken to Buffels Bay and reunited with their group.
