On the 10th April 2011, the Point Yacht Club will be hosting the NSRI Barrel Race in Durban Harbour. The aim of the day is to raise funds for the Durban NSRI station. Last year through the generous donations and a lot of hard work by the Fund Raising Committee, they managed to raise R 126,000.00!This year they would like to better that figure. The day is a fun day on the water in Durban Harbour, and starts with a sail past where they salute the dignitaries which include the Port Manager, Station Commander of NSRI, Commodores of Yacht Clubs and Chairpersons of other boating clubs situated in Durban Harbour. There is then a short race for the yachts and a “Cryptic Clue Contest” for the power boats around the Durban Harbour. After this all return to the Point Yacht Club for Prize Giving and Fund Raising activities, and this is where the real fun starts. In order to raise funds, donations are asked for from the business sector that survives off the marine market, and other related businesses, who feel that their contribution will assist a worthy cause. For more info please contact Hugh Turpin 082 908 0894 h.husarotra@mweb.co.za or
