Chris and Libby Bonnet owners of the Ocean Sailing Academy have been long time supports of the NSRI both in Durban and Nationally. They have donated many sailing courses to the NSRI to assist in training the skills of the NSRI crew. Recently they donated 10 sailing courses to the NSRI to be distributed nationally. It was with deep regret then that we learned of the passing of Chris Bonnet on the 2nd March 2011.His ashes were scattered by the RNLI committee boat on Friday the 11th of March and as a sign of respect the Durban 10m Rescue craft – Eikos Rescuer 2 and 7m rescue craft – Megan 2 attended the scattering of his ashes.Libby Bonnet wrote :“Dear NSRI DurbanHow splendid to see your two NSRI vessels at the very fine and fitting Scattering of the ashes for Chris on FridayWe are so touched and gratified and know just how close the link between us BOTH was - for so many years.Dave S and Chris B were in touch so often…and always seemed to be on the same page!!And What a passion they both shared ..and shared visions…incredible determination - and BOTH are irreplaceableWe thank you most sincerely for this fitting gesture of respect and honour And May we continue this bond with strength and dedication.Sincerely and with gratitudeLIBBY BONNETAnd the OFFSHORE TEAM”
