Clifton rescue

At 07h04 on Saturday NSRI Bakoven were called out following reports from the Police of two men trapped on Duiker Rock, 4th Beach Clifton.Spirit of Rotary – Table Bay and a Metro EMS ambulance responded.Arriving on-scene 2 young men, Dune Tancrel, 23, from Vredehoek, and Warren Kiewiet, in his mid twenties, from Strandfontein, were found on Duiker Rock, off Clifton 4th Beach. They were both taken aboard our rescue craft and brought to shore at Clifton 4th where local paddle boarder, Peter Castle, helped us to paddle them onto the beach.Metro EMS paramedics treated Dune Tancrel for hypothermia.Dune had swum to the rock, in his jeans, and with his wallet still in his pocket, following a night of clubbing. He was with a group of friends on the beach and he had decided to swim to the rock , some distance off-shore of Clifton 4th.Another group of bystanders had noticed his attempt to reach the rock and they told us that it was clear to them that when he reached the rock he had appeared to be in difficulty as he was disorientated and unsteady.A bystander, Warren Kiewiet, had swum out to Dune while his friends called the NSRI.Warren stayed with Dune, who was hypothermic, until our sea rescue craft arrived.Dune was apologetic to his rescuers and admitted that he may not have made it back to shore. He thanked Warren and the NSRI.The NSRI commend Warren for his efforts to help Dune.
