Johan Van Rensburg of Welkom is the winner of the NSRI annual car competition draw held at Mitsubishi Motors in Paarden Eiland on Tueday afternoon.
In a first for the competition, he had made a pact with fellow finalist, Paul Lowe of Wynberg, and shortly after winning, Johan handed Paul the keys to one of the Pajeros as he had promised.
None of the finalists left empty handed as they drew lucky tickets for Hisense TVs, Canon cameras, Logik TVs, a Toshiba notebook and a trip to the 2011 Grand Prix.
The winner of the R100 000 annual debit order lucky draw competition was Kevin Lithgow of Richards Bay.
In a twist of fate, Kevin had been rescued by the Richards Bay volunteers in July 2000. It was a traumatic voyage in which he had offered to help a friend sail his 36 foot steel hulled yacht from Beira and everything that could go wrong did. Eventually, after he had sorted out fuel contamination, engine failure and battled two storms, Richards Bay NSRI were able to tow D’ Accord safely into the harbour.
Asked why he supported the NSRI debit order fund raiser Kevin said, “It is a noble cause. The volunteers put their lives on the line and its an honour to support them.”
The annual NSRI car competition entries are R475 per ticket and is a fundraising effort hosted by NSRI which has been supported by Mitsubishi Motors, Mercedes Benz South Africa for many years.
The debit order annual draw comes from a debit order fundraising effort by NSRI. Each month 5 debit order participants are drawn to win R10 000 each, and there is one annual draw of R100 000.
