“At 05h30 on Monday 22 November, Sea Rescue Yzerfontein volunteers were called out after a request for assistance from the Lusitania Fishing Companie’s 12 metre fishing boat Jenny Anne. She reporting that her motor was fouled in rope and that she was drifting ashore on Dassen Island with 6 crew onboard.Says Station Commander Darius van Niekerk :“We launched our 7.2 metre rescue craft “Rotary Onwards” and on arrival, Jenny Anne was found hard aground with only one of the six crew safely ashore. Although the remaining crew were in no danger, the decision was taken to get them off the boat, onto Dassen Island.“Two of our Sea Rescue swimmers swam ashore and a rope was secured to the trawler and onto an anchor point on the land. One by one they were assisted ashore.“ We picked the crew and our swimmers up at Dassen Island’s Northern Jetty, and brought them to Yzerfontein harbour.Paramedics from Netcare 911 assessed the crew and decided to transported only the skipper, Andries de Freitos to hospital.”
