Fisherman evacuated off Deck-boat

NSRI Media Release:Friday, 08 October, 2010. Fisherman casualty evacuated off Deck-boat.Juan Pretorius, NSRI Port Alfred station commander, said: “At 06h46 NSRI Port Alfred volunteers were activated following a request for medical assistance from the Deck Boat (open fishing boat) Altair reporting a 33 year old crewman on-board requiring evacuation to hospital and suffering acute abdominal pains.“We launched our rescue craft Kowie Rescuer and rendezvoused with the casualty vessel 1 nautical mile off-shore of the Kowie River Mouth in calm 2 to 3 metre swells.“The patient was stabilised by our sea rescue medics and transferred onto our rescue craft and brought to shore where we loaded the patient into our sea rescue vehicle and we transported the patient, in a stable but serious condition, to hospital for further treatment.”=======In another incident on Friday, 08 October, 2010. Fisherman casualty evacuated off Chokka Boat and Engineer transported to Chokka Boat dragging anchor with engine trouble.Juan Pretorius, NSRI Port Alfred station commander, said: “At 17h43 NSRI Port Alfred volunteers were activated following a request for medical assistance from the Chokka Boat Le-Marsh reporting a crewman on-board requiring evacuation to hospital suffering a suspected stroke.“We launched our rescue craft Kowie Rescuer and rendezvoused with the casualty vessel 6 nautical mile off-shore in the direction of Kenton-On-Sea in 4 metre swells and a 30 knot South Westerly wind.“The 58 year old patient, from Port Elizabeth, was stabilised by our sea rescue medics who found the patient to be experiencing high blood pressure and the patient was transferred onto our rescue craft and brought to shore where we loaded the patient into our sea rescue vehicle and we transported the patient, in a stable but serious condition, to hospital for further treatment.“The patient has been transferred from a Port Alfred hospital to a hospital IN Port Elizabeth, by a Metro ambulance, for further treatment.”“At 19h02 our Sea Rescue Port Alfred volunteers were requested to transport an engineer to the Chokka Boat Braveheart reported to be experiencing engine trouble and dragging anchor in the rough sea conditions.“Braveheart were 6 nautical miles East of Port Alfred and on our arrival on-scene we stood by on-scene until the engineer confirmed that more specialised equipment would be required to effect repairs (only available on Saturday morning) and with sea conditions improving we departed the scene to return to our rescue base after making arrangements for Braveheart to call us if they needed further assistance.“During this operation our sea rescue volunteers used illuminating flares to exit and enter our harbour as a critical navigational harbour light no longer exists.”
