While our rescue crews and lifeguards are out saving lives, we have a team raising funds to support their efforts. If you have excellent communication skills, good references and are goal-oriented, you may be a good candidate.
  • You must be a team player, motivated, energetic and have good interpersonal skills. The call centre is based in Milnerton, Cape Town, on the MY CITI bus route.
  • There are also teams that promote NSRI, face to face, in shopping centres in Johannesburg and Cape Town. If you have no previous fundraising experience – they will train you.

UPDATE: An angler missing after reportedly being swept off rocks by a wave

The body of a man located at Small Bay and recovered by Police divers, from rocks on the shoreline at low tide, during the morning of Sunday, 21 July, may be that of a fisherman, an adult male, that went missing at Small Bay on Saturday after being swept off rocks while angling. However formal identification will need to be made in cooperation with Police and Forensic Pathology Services.

A Filipino injured male medically evacuated off a ship

Roy Wienand, NSRI Durban station commander, said: At 17h00, Tuesday, 16 July, NSRI Durban duty crew and Netcare 911 ambulance services, were alerted to prepare our NSRI rescue craft, MEX (Maritime Extrication) crew and Netcare 911 rescue paramedics, following a request for a patient to be medically evacuated from a 260 meter motor vessel gas tanker expected to arrive offshore of Durban at 23h00.

Clifford Ireland, NSRI Durban duty coxswain, said: At approximately 09h00, Saturday, 13 July, NSRI Durban received notification of a pending medical evacuation due to be carried out from a bulk carrier motor vessel that heading towards Durban from deep sea.

Injured Seafarer Evacuated from Storm-Battered Vessel in False Bay

On July 7, NSRI and EMS teams executed a daring rescue of a 27-year-old injured seafarer from the vessel Rio Grande Express off False Bay. Despite severe storm conditions, the patient was safely evacuated and transported to the hospital.

During a routine exercise on July 6, NSRI rescued Botswana rower Marc Germiquet off Richards Bay. Training for the "World’s Toughest Row," he requested assistance due to unexpected winds. Safely towed to shore, he joined the NSRI team for rugby and a braai.
