Matthys Koch, NSRI Lamberts Bay station commander, said:
At 17h00, Monday, 23rd April, NSRI Lamberts Bay duty crew were activated following a request for assistance from the crew aboard the 7 meter fishing boat Major Dad, with 10 crew members onboard, reporting motor mechanical failure 7 nautical miles South West of Lamberts Bay.
The sea rescue craft Douglas Murray was launched and with a storm approaching NSRI Mykonos were placed on alert.
On arrival on the scene we took them under tow and as a precaution, considering the storm approaching, NSRI Mykonos duty crew were activated and they were towing their sea rescue craft towards Lamberts Bay when we confirmed to them that we were safe back in Lamberts Bay harbour, ahead of the storm and NSRI Mykonos returned to base.
Once the casualty boat was safely moored no further assistance was required.
