There were emotional scenes as members of the Atlantis community joined the first qualified Sea Rescue Lifeguards as they walked out of the NSRI station for the opening of the volunteer Lifeguarding season.
After speeches by Reverend Johannes Christoffels and Councillor Nora Grose, the NSRI Lifeguards swam flowers out into the bay in memory of 14 year old Joshua Joubert who drowned at Melkbos on the 29 October 2017.
After the moving ceremony the NSRI Lifeguards decided that every year at the start of the volunteer season they would repeat the ceremony to remember Joshua and all those who lost their lives on our coast.
