Andre Fraser, NSRI Mossel Bay station commander, said:
At 22h01, Tuesday, 24th October, NSRI Mossel Bay duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) following reports of a 21 year old local man suffering hyperglycaemia onboard the SA Agulhas 2.
The ship, believed to be on a voyage from last Port of call Port Elizabeth to Cape Town had already passed Mossel Bay and reported the patient to MRCC and after a Government Health EMS duty doctor evaluated the patient in communications with the ship the ship turned around to go back towards Mossel Bay.
The sea rescue craft Rescue 15 was launched and we rendezvoused with the SA Agulhas 2 about a nautical mile off-shore of the North breakwater just after midnight and the patient, walking wounded, was transferred onto Rescue 15 in the care of NSRI medics and brought to shore where he was taken into the care of By Grace ambulance services paramedics and transported to hospital by By Grace ambulance in a stable condition for further medical treatment.
