Ian Gray, NSRI Port Elizabeth station commander, said:
At 21h31 on Sunday the 8th of October, NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew launched the sea rescue craft Spirit of Toft and rendezvoused with the stern trawler Harvest Atlantic Peace 1.5 nautical miles East of the Port breakwater.
The fishing vessel had come into the Bay from fishing grounds.
2 NSRI medics were put aboard the ship where a 45 year old Saldanha Bay fisherman was medically assessed for lower back pain.
The patient, walking wounded and in a stable condition, was transferred onto the sea rescue craft and brought into the Port of Port Elizabeth where EC Government Health EMS paramedics took over his care. He has been transported to hospital in a stable condition by EMS ambulance.
The operation was completed at 22h15 and the fishing vessel has returned to fishing grounds.
