At 02h05, Monday, 22nd June, NSRI St Francis Bay duty crew were activated following a request for medical assistance from crew aboard the Chokka fishing boat PIETRO LEANJA reporting that they were heading towards the Port of St Francis with their skipper who was suffering from a back injury sustained earlier on board the vessel.
It appears that the skipper of the vessel suffered a back injury after being thrown against the inside of the wheel house when the vessel was unexpectedly rolled by sea swells while underway.
NSRI St Francis Bay launched the sea rescue craft SPIRIT OF ST FRANCIS II and rendezvoused with the Chokka boat 1 nautical mile off-shore of the Port of St Francis.
The skipper was found to be in a stable condition suffering from back pain and he was secured into a Stokes basket stretcher and transferred onto the sea rescue craft and brought into Port and he has been transported in a stable condition by Private Care ambulance to hospital for further treatment.
The Chokka fishing boat PIETRO LEANJA has docked at the Port of St Francis.
