East London – Sunday 29 March, 2015.
At 07h38 on Sunday the 29th of March, East London duty crew launched SPIRIT OF LOTTO following a request for assistance, made to the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA), from the yacht ADIOS, with 4 male crew on board. They were sailing from Port Elizabeth to her home port in East London and had motor failure. In windless conditions and a flat sea they were unable to make progress, and although in no imminent danger, requested assistance.
SPIRIT OF LOTTO arrived on-scene at 10h45, 58 nautical miles south of East London, off the Fish River Lighthouse. All 4 men were safe and a tow line has been rigged to the casualty yacht. We expect to be in the Port of East London with the casualty boat under tow at 18h00 this evening.
