At 10h10, Thursday, 01 January, NSRI Port Alfred duty crew were alerted by a frantic father reporting his child missing at Boknes Beach, 40 kilometres west of Port Alfred, missing in unknown circumstances.
The father reported that he was racing to the beach from his home in Alexandria, Port Alfred, after his wife reported that she couldn’t find their 7 year old son at the beach.
It was then reported that lifeguards had recovered the child from the Boknes Lagoon and CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) efforts had been commenced by lifeguards on the 7 year old drowning victim.
NSRI Port Alfred dispatched NSRI medics, escorted to the scene by Eastern Cape Traffic Services, and EC Government Health EMS were activated.
On arrival on the scene extensive CPR efforts continued but after all efforts to resuscitate the child were exhausted the child was declared deceased by paramedics.
The body of the child has been handed into the care of Police and the Forensic Pathology Services and Police have opened an inquest docket.
