Liza Wigley reports on WaterWise Eden:
I have been rather naïve, thinking that everyone knew that the red-and-yellow flags of the lifeguards on the beach meant that you had to swim in between them. Not even high school pupils knew why these flags are there, except for one or two learners. This from schools at the coast!
The little ones all enjoy the “PLAN” and learning the emergency number “10177”. When I wait at schools for break to finish, you can hear them all singing the number.
Learners from Grade 5 and up, pay close attention when I start speaking about RIP Currents and when I take Little Junior out, they are all leaning forward in their desks for the demonstration of CPR.
