At 20h00 on Wednesday the 07th of May, NSRI Port Elizabeth volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority following a request for medical assistance from the shipping agents to the bulk carrier MV INDIA, sailing from Brazil to Singapore, requesting casualty evacuation of a 45 year old Filipino sailor suspected to have a burst stomach ulcer and requiring evacuation to shore and transportation to hospital.
The vessel had motored towards nearest Port at Port Elizabeth to arrange appropriate casualty evacuation.
Our NSRI Port Elizabeth volunteer sea rescue duty crew launched our sea rescue craft EIKOS RESCUER IV and responded to rendezvous with MV INDIA 3 nautical miles off Port Elizabeth.
On arrival on-scene the patient, walking wounded and in a stable and satisfactory condition, was brought down the pilots ladder onto our sea rescue craft and brought to shore where the shipping agent transported him to hospital for further treatment.
