Paarl based WaterWise Instructor, Desireé Pinetown, speaks from her heart:
Teaching water safety in Paarl is great fun! I enjoy precious and exciting moments with the learners. It is in many ways rewarding. I like to make a difference in their lives. The learners know me and my style. They are always excited when I visit their schools … and I am often happily surprised how much they can remember from my last visit.
I put in great effort in teaching water safety to make it worthwhile not just for the learners but for the educators too. The learners learn while having fun. In this way they remember important facts. I constantly stress and reinforce the core facts about water safety and always remind them of what could happen if they do not obey water safety rules. Water is unpredictable. Always be alert.
I would like to thank not just my sponsor, Transnet National Ports Authority, but also the principals, educators and learners for the effort they put in to host me at their schools. The learners are the future of our country. It is imperative that we invest in their safety.
The educators can easily adapt and reinforce our water safety message by blending it in their work. Our programme is learner and curriculum friendly. I am proud to be associated with Sea Rescue.
Let’s take a look of what the learners are up to in Paarl.
