During the WaterWise session at Pieter Langeveldt Primary School the learners were taught basic water safety as well as the importance of protecting their skin against sunburn. They were taught to avoid staying in the sun in the late morning and early afternoon when the sunrays are at their strongest, and to apply sunscreen or wear a light protective shirt when they are in the sun. SUNBURN can be painful.
With the holiday approaching the kids in the rural areas were concerned about the lack of swimming facilities and overcrowded swimming pools. We highlighted dirty swimming pools and the danger of not being able to see where the bottom is as well as health dangers. We warned the kiddies to NEVER EVER swim in DIRTY or MUDDY water.
On a rainy day at Lynedoch Primary School these two grade R- learners were tempted to jump into the mud puddle. They like to slide in the mud or drag each other through the it! WaterWise Instructor, Desiree Pinetown, spoke to them and raised her concern about playing in mud puddles. Sometimes the puddles may be deeper than you think!
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU ARE IN AND AROUND WATER!
