1 Make sure that you have the ambulance emergency telephone number 10177 programmed in your cell phone.
2 Swim in areas with lifeguards on duty and obey all safety signs and warning flags.
3 Watch your children in or near water 100% of the time; 84% of drowning occurs because of lack adult supervision. ( world conference on drowning prevention 2011)
4 Learn swimming and water safety survival skills.
5 Learn safe ways of rescuing others without putting yourself in danger; 50% of victims thought they knew how to swim. ( world conference on drowning prevention 2011)
6 Always swim with others.
7 While in a boat use a life jacket
8 Be careful in rivers and lakes, hidden currents and holes can drown you in seconds.
9 Never go in the water after drinking alcohol or heavy meals.
10 Always enter shallow and unknown water feet first.
11 Floating objects such as tubes are an ‘illusion of safety’ always use a lifejacket.
12 Kids can drown any where, so fence, cover, close or remove any water puddle in or around your house.
13 Set water safety rules to your children.
14 Never try to cross, and stay away from currents. If caught in a current stay floating without fighting and wave for help.
