Jeffrey’s Bay Celebrates Sea Rescue’s 50th Anniversary

Station 37 | Jeffreys Bay’s 50 Year function took place over the weekend of 23 & 24 June, with a VIP function, attended by some 120 guests on the Friday night, as well as a Open Day on Saturday, where Crew had the opportunity to demonstrate our Rescue Craft & Vehicles as well as Rescue & First-aid techniques to members of the Public.

Sea Rescue Jeffreys Bay is only 7 years old, but in this time conducted in excess of 150 Rescues, resulting in 138 lives saved, as well as countless marine animals assisted and saved. Sea Rescue Jeffreys Bay offers the Residents, tourists and visitors of Jeffreys Bay piece of mind that a professional Sea Rescue Service is available 24/7/365, able to respond to any water-related and often other emergencies at a moments notice and at no cost. Station 37 is staffed by 26 passionate and highly trained Volunteers and operate 3 fully equipped Rescue Craft and 3 Rescue Vehicles.

During the VIP function on Friday night, Regional Opps Board Representative Justin Erasmus presented Station 37 with the Station Excellence Award for 2016. This is the 4th consecutive year, that Sea Rescue Jeffreys Bay received this award and was accepted by Ernie Schmidt [Dep StatCom] & Grietjie Burger [Trainee Coxswain].

The weekend further allowed us the opportunity to introduce and explain the ‘Pink Rescue Buoy’ concept and received commitments from members of the Public, that will allow us to install at least 6 of these Buoys and signs in the months to come.
