RICHARDS BAY : yacht towed into Port:

RICHARDS BAY  Friday, 26th October, 2012. International yacht towed safely to Port:

Cornel du Toit, NSRI Richard’s Bay station commander, said:

“At 04h44 NSRI Richards Bay duty crew were activated following a request for assistance from the yacht Truant II with husband and wife, Otto and Marietta Ulrichs, from Wilhelmshaven, Germany, reporting engine damage and requiring assistance to get into the Port of Richard’s Bay.

“The couple, in their sixties, had endured 3 days of heavy weather, with gusting 30 knot winds and heavy sea swells, sailing from Reunion, and had rigged storm sails. On approaching Richard’s Bay, their motor had overheated and they requested assistance.

“Our NSRI Richard’s Bay volunteer sea rescue crew launched our sea rescue craft and responded to rendezvous with the yacht 7 nautical miles off-shore.

“On arrival on-scene a tow-line was rigged and their yacht was towed safely into Port where they required no further assistance once safely berthed.”
