NSRI volunteer is Centrum Guardian finalist:

The 13-week TV series showing what the finalists did to be nominated starts tonight, and will be on every Thursday on SABC 3 at 22h10.

Your vote may make the difference between winning and losing this competition, which is judged on number of votes each rescue received.

To watch a re-enactment of the NSRI rescue, Rip Current Rescue, Wilderness, that saw NSRI volunteers become finalists, tune in to SABC3 on Thursday, 16 August 22h10 (repeated on Friday, 17 August 10h00).

Wilderness Sea Rescue volunteer Torsten Henschel is a finalist in the Centrum Guardian project for 2012. He can only win if you vote for him.

The project was launched four years ago to recognize  the incredible acts of courage and self-sacrifice that the people who operate in the Emergency Services Industry demonstrate each day to save the lives of South Africans.
Torsten has been nominated for his rescue of a 15 year old child from a rip current.

      Thanks Lauren. And there are some 980 of us, any of whom responds the same way when the call for help comes in! And more ‘behind the scenes’….
      I think I speak for all our volunteers when I say that we feel privileged and humbled by the difference we can make. It keeps us going. As do your kind words….

        Absolutely wonderful, and what a great shame that I am not able to see the television series here in the U.K. Volunteers are needed in all walks of life, and I know what a difference they can make. Long may you continue, and wish you all the best in the vote.

    It was on the Dune in Wilderness where Dad taught you to respect and learn to read the sea.
