The final meeting of the Traditional Boat Association was held at Royal Cape Yacht Club during a small cocktail party last night. Here the remaining cash assets of the association were carefully distributed to chosen beneficiaries.
Half of this money (R12000) was donated to NSRI. Margaret McCulloch, on behalf of Sea Rescue, accepted the cheque from Neil Lavin, together with a few mementos of the association. These will be displayed in our boardroom display cabinet as a tribute to the Master Mariners who founded and supported this society since its inception in 1991.
The balance of the funds were equally distributed amongst The Ship Society; the Sail Training academies of RCYC, accepted by John Martin; False Bay Yacht Club accepted by Colleen Liell-Cox; and Eniel Viljoen accepted on behalf of the Villiersdorp Antique Tractor Restoration Society. This society has taken on the responsibility of restoring the last remaining Steam Tug, the Alwyn Vintcent.

Thoughtfulness like this ensures our lifesaving service continues uninterruptdly. Past members of the TBA are invited to NSRI HQ for a cup of coffee, admire their pennant and Capt. Jack Clarke’s ropework on display, over reminiscences of “the old days”.
