The new and the old.
Bakoven’s new rescue boat is nearing completion. On Saturday, after the Bakoven volunteers aboard Spirit of Rotary Table Bay had helped to evacuate 19 men from the Eihatsu Maru in Clifton, the new 6.5 metre RIB was towed from Granger Bay to Bakoven.
She fits into Bakoven’s rescue base perfectly but a few changes will need to be made to the launching trailer.

Its a tight fit but with the planned alterations the Bakoven volunteers will be able to launch the new 6.5 as usual.

Thanks to everyone who assisted on saturday. We cannot wait to take delivery of our new 6.5m Gemini.
always impressive the new ribs gemini are custom building for sea rescue
Ah yes! Welcome to the 6.5m family! She’s in a class of her own! Well have to do a photo shoot of them both when yours is complete.
would be nice to take the old rescue two and put it in a local museum? last small rigid nsri craft to serve? or at least put her on display somewhere
Jacques, great idea if it were not for the fact that the revenue from her sale will go a long way to paying for the new one.
I was still Statcom of Station 2 when we acquired the current Rescue Craft at Bakoven. I remember many happy hours as we fitted her out when she first arrived from the builder in KZN. She is probably the only Rescue Craft in the NSRI fleet to have ever flown under a helicopter when we evacuated her after a nasty storm in 2002 when the Base was destroyed. Andrew, maybe you could show that picture? I will miss her.
