Tribute to Don Cohoe

ANDREW DONALD COHOE 1929 – 2010

Don spent his working life in the SA Air Force, where he flew Spitfires, made training films for Defence Force College of Technology and lectured on Missiles.

In 1987 he retired, and he and Maureen moved to Mossel Bay, and immediately became active in the community, joining NSRI and Rotary within a year. His willingness to serve, and friendly  and happy outlook on life, soon established him as popular friend in our Town.

At NSRI Don became a Radio Operator, and within a short time was promoted to Chief Controller, and was involved in many rescues. His commitment was always total, serving as Station Treasurer and later as Quartermaster.

As a Rotarian, he was elected Club President on two occasions, and for his service to the community, was awarded  a “Paul Harris Fellowship”.

At Rotary, he also compiled a number of the Club’s yearly scrapbooks, which won many District awards. For many years he designed and printed the Club’s President Induction Programme, the Citizen of the Year Awards Certificates and was the Club’s official “photographer”.

Don also was a pillar at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, where he also served on the Church Council.

He was also man of tremendous talent and varied interests including being a  Ranger with SAN Parks, model builder, radio ham and an avid Caravaner.

Don and Maureen were married for 51 years, they have 3 sons and 6 grandchildren.

He will be sorely missed, and our memories of him will only be fond ones, may he rest in peace.
